Frequently asked questions about WP Notepad.
Where are notes stored?
In the visitor’s own browser (LocalStorage) by default. Only when the administrator enables cross-device sync and the visitor is logged in are notes also stored on the server (in that user’s user meta).
Can other visitors see my notes?
No. LocalStorage is per browser and per device, so other visitors cannot see it. Even with sync enabled, notes are saved only to each user’s own account.
Are notes lost if I clear my browser data?
Browser-only notes are removed. Use the Download button to keep a copy, or enable sync for logged-in users.
Can I share notes across devices?
Yes, if the administrator enables cross-device sync under Settings → WP Notepad and you are logged in. Otherwise notes are kept per device/browser.
Can I place more than one notepad on a page?
Yes. For shortcodes, give each one a unique id attribute so the storage keys don’t collide. Blocks and widgets get a unique key per instance automatically.
Can notes be deleted automatically after some time?
Yes. Set the “auto-delete days” option of the widget/block, or the ttl shortcode attribute, and notes older than that many days are removed on the next load (0 = never).
How do I use the shortcode?
Place [wpnotepad] in content or theme templates. See the usage guide for the full attribute list (id, placeholder, tabs, ttl, …) and examples.
Does data remain after uninstalling?
Visitors’ notes live in their browsers, so deleting the plugin does not remove them. For how server-side settings and sync data are handled, see the documentation (for developers).
